Thirsty For One Glimpse

ਲੋਚਨ ਤਾਰ ਲਲਤਾ ਬਿਲਲਾਤੀ ਦਰਸਨ ਪਿਆਸ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੫॥
lochan taar laltaa billaatee darsan pi-aas rajaa-ee. ||5||
I stare at You, and my tongue cries out to You; I am so thirsty for the Blessed Vision of Your Darshan. ||5||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My eyes stay fixed on You, and my tongue cries out for You.

I am so thirsty for darshan — the blessing of seeing You, of being in Your presence.

A thirst that lifts your eyes toward what you love is a gift, not a wound.
The deeper layer

Love turns your whole self toward the One: your eyes look, your voice calls, your heart thirsts.

Darshan is the blessed sight or presence of the One. The thirst, pi-aas, is the rainbird's thirst again, waiting for one drop of rain. Eyes and tongue both reach out. The longing has a direction. It keeps your eyes lifted toward what you love.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you'd love just one close look at?
