The Guru's Teachings, the True Word of the Shabad, is excellent and sublime.
ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੈ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ॥੭॥
har kaa naam rakhai ur Dhaar. ||7||
Keep the Name of the Lord enshrined in your heart. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Guru's teaching, the true Word, is the very best.

Keep the Naam of the One held close in your heart.

The Name kept in your heart is a treasure that travels everywhere with you.
The deeper layer

The Name kept in the heart is a treasure that goes everywhere with us.

Gurmat saachee sabad hai saar: the Guru's teaching, the true Word, is saar, the very best. Har kaa naam rakhai ur Dhaar: keep the One's Name held in your heart.

Think of a small photo of someone you love, tucked in a wallet. You carry it everywhere, and it makes you feel less alone. The Name is like that, only deeper.

This is the warm center of a shabad full of warnings. It is the one thing worth carrying through everything.

A Question to Sit With

What is something precious you like to keep close, wherever you go?
