Near At Hand, Everywhere

ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥

They alone are devotees, who are pleasing to the Mind of the True Guru.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਹੇ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
an-din naam rahay liv laa-ay.
Night and day, they remain lovingly attuned to the Name.
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਹਜੂਰਿ ॥
sad hee naam vaykheh hajoor.
They behold the Naam, the Name of the Lord, ever-present, near at hand.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ॥੭॥

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, He is pervading and permeating everywhere. ||7||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

They alone are devotees who are pleasing to the True Guru.

Day and night, they stay lovingly close to the Naam.

They always see the Naam of the One right here, near at hand.

Through the Guru's Word, the One fills every place.

The One is near at hand, filling everywhere you look.
The deeper layer

A true devotee lives in tune with the Guru and finds the One close by, everywhere.

The verse says the true bhagat, devotees, are the ones the Guru is pleased with. Day and night their attention stays warmly on the Name.

Then comes a lovely word. Sad hee naam vaykheh hajoor: they always see the Name hajoor, right here, near at hand. The One is not far off in the sky. Think of looking for your glasses and finding them on your head. The One was never away. Through the Guru's Word, the One fills everything, everywhere.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you notice something wonderful that's been near you all along?
