In plain words

The One Itself forgives, and gives love.

The world suffers from the terrible sickness of ego (haumai — the feeling of being a separate self).

By the Guru's grace, this sickness is healed.

Nanak says: through what is true, a person stays soaked in the True One.

The ego is a sickness that grace is always ready to heal.
The deeper layer

The ego is a sickness, and the One's grace can heal it.

The song ends with good news. Aapay bakhsay day-ay pi-aar: the One forgives and gives love. We don't have to earn it first.

Ha-umai rog vadaa sansaar: the whole world suffers from the big sickness of haumai, the ego. Rog means disease. It is the feeling that "I" am the center of everything. But this sickness can be cured. The Guru's grace is the medicine. Think of a fever that breaks, and you can rest at last. Guru Nanak's name closes the song: through what is true, we rest in the True One.

A Question to Sit With
