My mind is soaked in the lotus feet of the One.
O One, You are the water, and Your people are the fish.
Dear One, You alone are the water and the fish. I know there is no difference between the two.
Please take hold of my arm and give me the Naam. Only by Your grace do I have any honor.
In the Sangat, remember with love the One Lord of the Universe, who is kind to the humble.
Nanak says: small and helpless, I have come to the shelter of the One, who in kindness has made me Its own.
You are as close to the One as a fish is to the water it swims in.
Jal meen: water and fish. A fish cannot live a moment outside the water. Guru Arjan goes further: the One is both the water and the fish, bhinn aan na jaanee-ai, with no difference between them. Tau prasaadee maanee-ai: honor comes only by grace, received as a gift.
Kirpaal gobid deenaa: the Lord of the Universe is kind to the humble. The small and the struggling are the very ones held close.
What is the water you are swimming in without noticing?
