O Nanak, that soul-bride suffers in pain, whose mind is torn away from her Husband Lord. ||2||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The clouds hang lower and lower, and pure, clean water pours down.
Nanak says: the bride whose heart has turned away from her Beloved feels only pain.
The ache of turning away is a map back home.
A heart turned away from the One feels even the clean rain as pain.
Man bhang is a heart broken off from its Beloved. The same pure rain that brings joy to a loving heart brings sorrow to this one. In Raag Malaar, this ache shows exactly where the heart has turned, so it can turn again.
Think of a favorite song that plays after a quarrel with a friend. The song is the same, but it hurts until you make up.
A Question to Sit With
How do you know when you have drifted from something that matters?
