The One made both sides and fills them both. The words of the Vedas spread, and with them came arguments inside.
Holding on to the world and letting go of it are the two sides; doing right walks between them as a guide.
Those who follow only their own minds are unripe and false; they surely lose in the court of the One.
Those who follow the Guru's teaching are brave warriors through the Word; they have beaten their desire and anger.
Made beautiful by the Word, they go into the True One's palace. These devotees please You; they love the True Name.
I give my whole self to those who serve their Guru.
The bravest fight is with your own desire and anger, and doing right is the guide between holding on and letting go.
Parvirt means being busy in the world, and nirvirt means stepping back from it. Dharam firai raibaari-aa: doing right walks between the two like a raibaar, a guide on the road. The Vedas, the old holy books of India, spread wide, and people began to argue over them. Arguing about holy words is different from living by them.
Gurmatee sabad soor: the warriors are those who follow the Guru's teaching. Their battle is inside, with kaam and krodh, desire and anger.
Think of a tightrope walker. Lean too far either way and you fall. A steady guide in the middle carries you across.
Where in your life do you need to find the middle between doing and resting?
