Hanging low, low and thick in the sky, the clouds come, and water rains down in torrents.
ਨਾਨਕ ਭਾਣੈ ਚਲੈ ਕੰਤ ਕੈ ਸੁ ਮਾਣੇ ਸਦਾ ਰਲੀ ॥੧॥
naanak bhaanai chalai kant kai so maanay sadaa ralee. ||1||
O Nanak, she walks in harmony with the Will of her Husband Lord; she enjoys peace and pleasure forever. ||1||
Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The clouds hang lower and lower, and the rain pours down without stopping.
Nanak says: the bride who walks in step with her Beloved's will enjoys peace and delight forever.
Peace comes from moving with the current, not against it.
The heart that moves with the flow of the One's will knows lasting joy.
Bhaanai chalai kant kai: she walks in the bhaanaa, the will, of her Beloved. Think of bhaanaa as the flow of existence, the way life moves, like a river carrying everything along. Sadaa ralee is a joy that lasts.
The steady downpour matches a settled heart. Think of a swimmer who stops fighting the current and lets it carry her to shore.
A Question to Sit With
When did going along with the flow bring you more peace than fighting it?
