O rainbird, do not cry out. Do not let this mind of yours be so thirsty for a drop of water. Obey the Hukam, the Command of your Lord and Master,

In plain words

O rainbird, do not cry out, and do not let this mind of yours ache with thirst. Accept the flow of your Master's will.

Nanak says: when you accept that flow, your thirst goes away, and your love grows four times over.

Resting in the flow eases your thirst and multiplies your love.
The deeper layer

Rest in the flow of the One, and the thirst eases while love grows.

Hukam mann: accept the hukam, the flow of existence, the way all of life moves. The rainbird cries and cries for its raindrop. When it stops straining and trusts the flow, the thirst eases. Charhai chavgal vann: the color of love deepens four times over.

Think of falling asleep. The harder you try, the more awake you feel. When you let go, sleep comes on its own.

A Question to Sit With

When has letting go of the frantic feeling helped you get what you needed?
