O Nanak, those who are imbued with the Naam intuitively merge with the Lord; they practice the Word of the Guru's Shabad. ||1||

In plain words

O rainbird, the bride with good qualities reaches her Husband's home; the one without them stays far away.

The One lives deep inside you. The one who follows the Guru sees the One always near.

When the One looks with kindness, the crying and calling out stop.

Nanak says: those dyed in the Naam meet the One easily, working with the Guru's Word.

What you are searching for lives closer than your own breath.
The deeper layer

The One you long for lives inside you, and one kind glance ends the crying.

A salok of the Third Mehl. Antar tayrai har vasai, the One lives within you, is the heart of it and the answer to viraha, the ache of longing. The bride with good qualities and the one without them show a nearness that opens when the heart turns. Kook pukaar na hova-ee: the crying stops, and the longing comes home.

A Question to Sit With

Have you ever looked everywhere for something that was in your hand the whole time?
