Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
The sweet Naam always gives peace. At the very end, it is the friend who stays by your side.
Without the Guru, the world goes a little crazy. It does not see what the Naam is worth.
Those who serve the True Guru are welcomed. Their small light melts into the great Light.
Whoever keeps the One's will at home in their heart becomes like the One they serve.
Tell me, who ever found peace by going only their own way? Those who cannot see just keep walking in the dark.
Wrong things never fill you up. That foolish hunger never goes away.
Pulled two ways, away from the One, everyone gets lost. Without the True Guru, no one understands.
Whoever serves the True Guru finds peace: the ones the One, by the One's own will, blesses with grace.
The Naam gives a peace that lasts, and it stays with us to the very end.
Amrit naam sadaa sukh-daata: the sweet Name is always the giver of peace. Antay ho-ay sakhaa-ee: at the end, it is our friend and helper. This is a gentle way of speaking about the close of life.
Baajh guroo jagat ba-uraanaa: without the Guru, the world is confused, like someone spinning in circles.
Jin jotee jot milaa-ee: their light merges into the Light. Think of a wave sinking back into the ocean. The ha-umai, the ego, melts away, and the small light becomes part of the big one. Jis bhaanaa man vasaa-ee: whoever keeps the One's bhaanaa, the Will, in the mind becomes like the Master.
Aapnai bhaanai kaho kin sukh paa-i-aa: tell me, who ever found peace by going only their own way? Going only your own way is like walking with your eyes closed. Wrong things never fill that hunger, and being pulled two ways, away from the One, leaves everyone lost.
Satgur sayvay so sukh paa-ay jis no kirpaa karay rajaa-ee: peace comes to those the One blesses with grace. Grace is given freely. It is received, not earned.
Who or what do you hope will still be with you no matter what happens?
