The One Who Gave The Wings

jin tan saaj dee-ay naal khanbh.
He fashioned the body, and gave it wings;
at tarisnaa udnai kee danjh.
He gave it great thirst and desire to fly.
nadar karay taaN banDhaaN Dheer.
When He bestows His Glance of Grace, I am comforted and consoled.
ji-o vaykhaalay ti-o vaykhaaN beer. ||3||
As He makes me see, so do I see, O brother. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One shaped this body and gave it wings,

and gave it a great thirst, a longing to fly.

When the One looks on me with grace, I grow calm and steady.

As the One makes me see, so I see, O brother.

The same One who gave you your longing can settle it into peace.
The deeper layer

The One gave you wings and a thirst to fly, and the One's glance of grace makes you steady.

Jin tan saaj dee-ay naal khanbh: the One who made the body gave it wings, and at trisnaa, a great thirst to fly. Under the nadar, the glance of grace, the restless heart is comforted (bandhaan dheer). Ji-o vaykhaalay ti-o vaykhaan: as the One shows, so I see.

A Question to Sit With

What is a longing inside you, and what helps it feel calmer?
