In plain words

Such is the falsehood that is robbing the world.

The one who speaks badly of me keeps speaking badly of me, and still, I love him.

You can choose to love even someone who puts you down, and keep your own heart clean.
The deeper layer

You can love even someone who says bad things about you, and keep your own heart clean.

This is the rahaa-o, the pause line, the center of the shabad, and it holds one of its boldest lines. Aisay jhooth muthay sansaaraa: such falsehood plunders the world. Then nindak nindai mujhai pi-aaraa, the slanderer slanders me, but he is dear to me. This is loving your critic without hitting back. It keeps the heart clean, and it even lets the critic help polish away pride.

If someone is being unkind to you or hurting you, that is never something you have to accept. Telling a grown-up you trust is always the right thing to do.

A Question to Sit With

Is it possible to not hate someone who is unkind to you? What would that take?
