In plain words

Dear One, whoever comes to Your shelter, You have the power to keep safe.

I cannot think of anyone as great as You. There never was anyone, and there never will be.

Whoever comes for shelter is kept safe.
The deeper layer

Come to the One's shelter, and you are kept safe, because no one is as great as the One.

This whole shabad is built on one word: sarnaa-ee. It means shelter, a safe place to run to.

Jo tayree sarnaa-ee har jee-o tin too raakhan jog means, dear One, whoever comes to Your shelter, You are strong enough to keep them safe.

Why is that safe? Because of who the One is. TuDh jayvad mai avar na soojhai means I cannot think of anyone as great as You. Naa ko ho-aa na hog means there never was, and there never will be.

The safety is not a deal, like "do this and I will protect you." It flows naturally from the One's greatness. Think of a big tree in a storm. It does not ask the birds to pay rent. It just stands, and they are safe in its branches.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, or who do you go to, when you need to feel safe?
