No Longer Hungry

ਜੋ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤਿਨਾ ਦੂਖ ਭੂਖ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

O Nanak, praise the Naam, the Name of the Lord forever, and merge in the True Word of the Shabad. ||4||4||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Dear One, those who come to Your shelter feel no pain and no hunger for anything.

Nanak says: praise the Naam forever, and melt into the True Word.

In true shelter, the endless hunger for more finally rests.
The deeper layer

In the One's shelter, pain and endless hunger come to rest, and you melt into the True Word.

This last verse gathers up the promise of the whole shabad.

Jo tayree sarnaa-ee har jee-o tinaa dookh bhookh kichh naahi. It means those in Your shelter have no dookh, pain, and no bhookh, hunger. Here hunger means the wanting that never stops, always "one more thing." In the shelter, that hunger finally rests.

Then Guru Amar Das signs his name: naanak naam salaahi sadaa. It means Nanak says, praise the Name always.

Too sachai sabad samaahi means you will melt into the true Word. It is like a drop of rain falling into the ocean. The drop is not lost. It becomes part of something huge, and the feeling of being separate ends.

A Question to Sit With

What is a hunger for more that quiets down when you feel safe?
