Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Those who know where they came from live at home inside themselves, and peace comes to them easily.
Through the Guru's Word, the heart opens like a lotus flower, and the puffed-up "me" and the tangled thinking are gone.
The one True One is living in everyone. Only a few understand this.
Know where you came from, and you feel at home inside yourself.
mool pachhaanan: recognize your mool, your root, the One you came from. tin nij ghar vaasaa: such people live in nij ghar, their own home inside. sehjay hee sukh ho-ee: and peace comes naturally.
gur kai sabad kamal pargaasi-aa: through the Guru's Word, the heart opens like a kamal, a lotus flower. As it opens, ha-umai durmat kho-ee: ha-umai (the "me first" feeling) and durmat (tangled, confused thinking) fall away.
sabhnaa meh ayko sach vartai: the same True One lives in everyone. virlaa boojhai ko-ee: only a few see it. This idea comes back again and again in this raag, the musical mode these hymns are sung in.
Think of a tree that knows its roots go deep. The wind can blow, and it stays calm. Knowing your root gives that same calm.
Where do you feel most at home in yourself, just at ease?
