The One Inside You

gurmatee man nirmal ho-aa amrit tat vakhaanai.
Through the Guru's Teachings, the mind becomes immaculate, speaking the Ambrosial Essence.
har kaa naam sadaa man vasi-aa vich man hee man maanai.
The Name of the Lord dwells in the mind forever; within the mind, the mind is pleased and appeased.
sad balihaaree gur apunay vitahu jit aatam raam pachhaanai. ||3||
I am forever a sacrifice to my Guru, through whom I have realized the Lord, the Supreme Soul. ||3||

In plain words

Through the Guru's teaching, the mind becomes clean, and it speaks the sweet, life-giving heart of Truth.

The Naam of the One lives in the mind always, and inside itself the mind is content.

I give my whole self, forever, to my Guru, through whom I came to know the One living inside me.

The One you're looking for is living right inside you.
The deeper layer

The One lives inside you, and the Guru helps you recognize it.

gurmatee man nirmal ho-aa: through the Guru's teaching, the mind grows clean. amrit tat vakhaanai: then it speaks of amrit, the sweet nectar of what is true.

vich man hee man maanai: the mind is happy within itself. It stops reaching outside for things to fill it up.

sad balihaaree gur apunay: I give my whole heart to my Guru. Why? jit aatam raam pachhaanai: through the Guru, I came to know Aatam Raam, the One living as the Self inside me.

Think of hunting all over the house for your glasses, then finding them on your head. The One was never far away. Being thankful to the Guru who showed you is the most natural thing.

A Question to Sit With

When your mind is quiet, what does it feel like to be content with just being?
