Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

O my mind, praise your Guru.

Full good fortune is written on your face and forehead. Sing the praises of the One forever.

Gratitude sung aloud brings your good fortune to life.
The deeper layer

Praise your Guru, mind, and sing the praises of the One always.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Here it comes right at the start. Mayray man gur apnaa saalaahi means "O my mind, praise your Guru." The lines in this shabad are short, three beats each instead of the usual pairs.

Pooraa bhaag means "full good fortune," as if written on your face and forehead. Think of it as a gift already waiting with your name on it. The moment your heart turns to praise, you open it. It comes alive.

So sadaa har kay gun gaahi: "always sing the good qualities of the Lord." Think of saying thank you at dinner. It is small, but it changes how the whole meal feels.

A Question to Sit With

What is something in your life worth praising, right now?
