So embrace love for the Word of the Guru's Bani.

ਆਪੇ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਿਰਜਨਹਾਰੁ ॥੩॥
aapay dayvai sirjanhaar. ||3||
The Creator Lord Himself bestows it. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

So love the Guru's Word.

Here and in the world beyond, this is your one support.

The Creator gives it.

The Guru's Word is a support that holds here and always.
The deeper layer

Love the Guru's words; they hold you up here and beyond.

Gur kee banee si-o laa-ay pi-aar means "fall in love with the Guru's Word." Banee means the Guru's words, the holy songs.

Aithai othai ayhu aDhaar means "here and there, this is the support." Aithai is here, in this life. Othai is there, in the life beyond. The word aDhaar means a support, something that holds you up.

Think of the railing on a staircase. You grip it going up, and you grip it going down. It is there the whole way.

The verse ends with aapay dayvai sirjanhaar: "the Creator gives it." Sirjanhaar means the Creator. Even our love for the Word is a gift. We don't make it ourselves. We receive it.

A Question to Sit With

What words do you carry with you that hold you up when things are hard?
