Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

Through the Guru's teaching, I sing the praises of the One with joy upon joy, lifted up and lovingly tuned to the Naam.

Through the Guru's Word, I drink the sweet nectar. I give my whole self to the Naam.

When the heart is full, praise pours out on its own.
The deeper layer

Sing with joy upon joy, and your heart is lifted into the Naam.

Guru Ram Das opens this Bibhaas shabad with rasak rasak, a doubling that means with relish, with delight upon delight. Unman is the lifted, enraptured state of a mind carried up by love. The tone of the whole shabad is set here: overflow.

A Question to Sit With

When was the last time you were so happy you couldn't help but sing, hum, or shout?
