In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

O mind, remember the Naam of the One, Har, Har. It is a treasure.

You will be honored in the court of the One.

Those who remember the One are carried across to the far shore.

The Naam is both the treasure you hold and the boat that carries you across.
The deeper layer

The Naam is a treasure you can hold, and it carries you across to the far shore.

This is the rahao, the pause line, the center of the shabad, and here it comes first. The shabad is a Partaal, a form where the rhythm shifts and turns, sung in short, quick lines. Naam nidhaan, the Naam as treasure, and paar, carried across to the far shore, frame the whole: the Naam is both the wealth you hold and the boat that carries you.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing worth treasuring that you can carry with you everywhere?
