In plain words

There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.

The One made your mind and shaped your whole body.

From the five elements — earth, water, fire, air and space — the One formed it, and set the One's own light inside it.

The One made the earth your bed, and gave you water to use.

Remember the One in every instant. Serve the Lord of the World.

You did not build yourself — you were made with care, out of the whole world.
The deeper layer

You did not build yourself: the One shaped your mind and body from the five elements and set light inside you.

This pauri opens Guru Arjan's Prabhaatee shabads with the theme of making. "Panch tat," the five elements, is the old way of naming what everything is built from; the body is a careful weaving, with light set inside it. The name "saarigpaanee" means the One who holds and nourishes the world. "Do not forget for an instant" is an invitation to easy, continuous remembering.

A Question to Sit With

If your body was woven from earth, water, air, and fire, what does that say about how connected you are to everything around you?
