The Giver who never stops

kaaparh bhog ras anik bhunchaa-ay.
He makes all the various pleasures, clothes and foods for you to enjoy.
maat pitaa kutamb sagal banaa-ay.
He made your mother, father and all relatives.
rijak samaahay jal thal meet.
He provides sustenance to all, in the water and on the land, O friend.
so har sayvhu neetaa neet. ||2||
So serve the Lord, forever and ever. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The One gives you clothes, foods and many kinds of good things to enjoy.

The One made your mother, your father and all your family.

The One feeds everyone, in the water and on the land, my friend. So serve the One, day after day, always.

The same Source that feeds every creature in the world is caring for you right now.
The deeper layer

The Giver keeps giving, to you and to every creature in water and on land.

This echoes a theme that runs through Guru Nanak and Guru Arjan alike: the Giver keeps giving, endlessly, to all. "Rijak," sustenance, reaches "jal thal," water and land — no creature is left outside the provision.

A Question to Sit With

When you sit down to eat tonight, can you notice how many people and how much of the world it took to get that food to you?
