Verse 3 of 5

Well again in an instant

ਤਾਪ ਪਾਪ ਬਿਨਸੇ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਭਏ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ਗੁਸਾਈ ॥
taap paap binsay khin bheetar bha-ay kirpaal gusaa-ee.
My sicknesses and sins were erased in an instant, when the Lord of the World became merciful.
saas saas paarbarahm araaDhee apunay satgur kai bal jaa-ee. ||2||
With each and very breath, I worship and adore the Supreme Lord God; I am a sacrifice to the True Guru. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My sicknesses and my wrongs vanished in an instant, like frost in the morning sun, when the Lord of the World became kind.

With every breath, I worship the Supreme One. I give my whole self to my True Guru in thanks.

Kindness can melt away a hurt you have carried for a long time, faster than you would expect.
The deeper layer

When the One's kindness arrives, old hurts can melt away in a moment.

Taap paap binsay khin bheetar: fever and fault vanished in an instant. Taap means fever or sickness. Paap means wrongdoing.

Then the verse weaves the One into breathing itself. Saas saas: with each breath. Breathing is the most natural rhythm we have. You never have to remember to do it. The verse ends with bal jaa-ee, an old way of saying deep thanks. It means: I offer my whole self to the True Guru.

A Question to Sit With

Can you remember a time a small act of kindness completely changed how you were feeling?
