Deeper than we can measure

ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਬਿਅੰਤੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
agam agochar bi-ant su-aamee taa kaa ant na paa-ee-ai.
My Lord and Master is Inaccessible, Unfathomable and Infinite. His limits cannot be found.
ਲਾਹਾ ਖਾਟਿ ਹੋਈਐ ਧਨਵੰਤਾ ਅਪੁਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੩॥
laahaa khaat ho-ee-ai Dhanvantaa apunaa parabhoo Dhi-aa-ee-ai. ||3||
We earn the profit, and become wealthy, meditating on our God. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

My Master is out of reach, beyond our senses, and without end. No one can find the One's limits.

Remembering our own Lord, we earn the profit and become rich.

The richest thing you can gather is the kind of wealth that never washes away.
The deeper layer

The One is bigger than anything we can measure, yet remembering the One makes us rich inside.

Agam agochar bi-ant su-aamee: my Master is out of reach, beyond our senses, and without end. No box can hold the One. Taa kaa ant na paa-ee-ai: no one can find the edge.

Then Guru Arjan uses the words of a shopkeeper. Laahaa khaat: we earn a profit. Dhanvantaa: we become rich. He often speaks this way about wealth inside. Money in your pocket can be spent or lost. This wealth stays with you, like knowing how to read. It never washes off.

A Question to Sit With

What are some things that feel valuable but do not last — and what feels valuable that does?
