All pains and afflictions run away from those, whose minds are filled with the Word of the Guru's Bani. ||1||

In plain words

The Guru is perfect, and perfect is the Guru's power.

The Guru's word stays steady, forever and ever.

When the Guru's words fill someone's mind, all their aches and sorrows run away.

Some true things do not shift with the wind — you can build on them.
The deeper layer

The Guru's word never changes, and it chases pain away.

gur pooraa pooree taa kee kalaa — the Guru is perfect, and so is the Guru's power. gur kaa sabad sadaa sad atlaa — the Guru's Word never changes, forever and ever.

Think of a ship's anchor. Waves toss the boat around, but the anchor holds it steady. The Guru's Word is that anchor for the mind.

gur kee banee jis man vasai — when the Guru's banee, the Guru's sacred words, fill someone's mind, dookh darad sabh taa kaa nasai — all their pain and hurt runs away.

A Question to Sit With

What is something true you have learned that has not changed no matter what?
