Never once alone

ਘਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਭਨੀ ਥਾਈ ॥
ghar baahar parabh sabhnee thaa-ee.
Inwardly and outwardly, God is everywhere.
ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਜਹ ਹਉ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥
sang sahaa-ee jah ha-o jaa-ee. ||3||
Wherever I go, He is always with me, my Helper and Support. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Inside and outside, at home and out in the world, in every single place, the One is there.

Wherever I go, the One is with me, my companion and my helper.

Wherever you go, the One goes with you as a companion.
The deeper layer

You are never alone, because the One goes everywhere with you.

The verse says ghar baahar parabh sabhnee thaa-ee: at home and outside, the One is in every place. Then sang sahaa-ee jah ha-o jaa-ee: wherever I go, the One is my companion and helper.

So being everywhere becomes a kind of friendship. It is like a friend who walks beside you to school, sits with you at lunch and walks you home. That is the answer to feeling lonely.

A Question to Sit With

When do you feel most alone? What might it be like to remember, then, that you are accompanied?
