Made ready by contentment

ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਮੇਟੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ॥
kilbikh maytay sabad santokh.
My sins are cut away, through the Word of the Shabad, and I have found contentment.
ਨਾਮੁ ਅਰਾਧਨ ਹੋਆ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
naam araaDhan ho-aa jog.
I have become worthy of worshipping the Naam in adoration.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਆ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
saaDhsang ho-aa pargaas.
In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, I have been enlightened.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੁ ॥੧॥
charan kamal man maahi nivaas. ||1||
The Lord's Lotus Feet abide within my mind. ||1||

In plain words

Through the Word, my wrongs are cut away, and I have found contentment.

Now I am ready to worship the Naam with love.

In the Sangat, a light has come on inside me.

The lotus feet of the One live in my mind.

Contentment can be what makes you ready to begin.
The deeper layer

Contentment is what gets you ready to love the Naam.

Kilbikh maytay sabad santokh means "through the Word, my wrongs were erased, and contentment came." Kilbikh means wrongdoings. Santokh means contentment, the calm feeling of having enough.

Notice the order. Contentment isn't only a prize at the end. It's the ground you stand on to begin. Naam araaDhan ho-aa jog means "I became ready to worship the Naam." Think of a noisy classroom. Once everyone settles down, the lesson can start.

SaaDhsang ho-aa pargaas means "in the company of the holy, a light came on." SaaDhsang is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Pargaas means light. And charan kamal man maahi nivaas: "the One's lotus feet came to live in my mind." A lotus is a beautiful flower that grows out of muddy water.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you already have that you could feel more content about?
