God, Merciful to the meek, has become kind and compassionate; He has inspired me to chant His Name. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Saying "Guru, Guru," again and again, I have found a peace that lasts forever.

The One, kind to the meek, has become gentle and loving toward me, and has led me to chant the Naam.

The overlooked and the gentle-hearted are exactly the ones held most tenderly.
The deeper layer

Turning to the Guru again and again brings peace, and even that turning is a gift.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It says gur gur karat sadaa sukh paa-i-aa: saying "Guru, Guru," I found lasting peace. The repeating is like a steady heartbeat. It keeps you calm.

The One is called deen da-i-aal, kind to the meek. This name comes up often. It shows special tenderness for the humble and overlooked, like a teacher who notices the quiet kid at the back. And apnaa naam aap japaa-i-aa: the One brings the remembering about. Grace makes the first move.

A Question to Sit With

Who in your world is easy to overlook? What would it mean to treat them with special kindness?
