Verse 2 of 3

A light in the Sangat

ਸੰਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਇਆ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸ ॥
santsangat mil bha-i-aa pargaas.
Joining the Society of the Saints, I am illumined and enlightened.
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਈ ਆਸ ॥੧॥
har har japat pooran bha-ee aas. ||1||
Chanting the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, my hopes have been fulfilled. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Joining the Sangat, I have found a light come on inside me.

Chanting the Naam of the One, Har, Har, the hopes I carried have been fulfilled.

The Sangat can be where the light finally comes on inside you.
The deeper layer

Among people who remember the One, a light switches on inside you.

The verse says santsangat mil bha-i-aa pargaas. Santsangat is the Sangat — people gathered together to remember the One. Joining them, a light came on.

Then har har japat pooran bha-ee aas: remembering the One, my hopes came true. The fullness comes among people, not alone. It is like a group project that finally clicks because everyone is in it together.

A Question to Sit With

Who are the people around whom you feel most like your best, clearest self?
