Verse 3 of 3

The mind brimming with peace

ਸਰਬ ਕਲਿਆਣ ਸੂਖ ਮਨਿ ਵੂਠੇ ॥
sarab kali-aan sookh man voothay.
I am blessed with total salvation, and my mind is filled with peace.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਏ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਤੂਠੇ ॥੨॥੧੨॥
har gun gaa-ay gur naanak toothay. ||2||12||
I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord; O Nanak, the Guru has been gracious to me. ||2||12||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

I am blessed with every kind of well-being, and my mind is filled with peace.

I sing the praises of the One. Nanak says: the Guru has been kind to me.

Peace, when it comes, can fill your mind all the way to the brim.
The deeper layer

Every kind of well-being comes to live in your mind, until it brims with peace.

The verse says sarab kali-aan sookh man voothay: every kind of well-being and peace comes to live in the mind. Then gur naanak toothay: the Guru is pleased and kind.

Picture a cup filled right to the brim. That is the mind here, full and at rest. This short shabad has just two verses, and it ends right there, in calm.

A Question to Sit With

What is one thing that reliably brings a wave of peace over you?
