There is only One. And the One is found by the True Guru's grace — a gift that is always here, waiting for an open heart.
Chant the Naam of the One: Raam, Raam, Raam.
Then fighting and suffering, greed and clinging all melt away, and the hot fever of "it's all about me" cools down.
Repeating the Naam melts away fighting, greed and clinging, and the fever of ego cools.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad.
This song is a parh-taal, which means the rhythm keeps changing. It is lively and full of repeats, like a drum that speeds up and slows down. The line ram raam raam raam jaap repeats the Naam to match that beat.
Kal kalays lobh moh binas jaa-ay means four troubles go away: kal, fighting; kalays, suffering; lobh, greed; and moh, clinging.
And ahaN taap cools. AhaN means "I" or ego, and taap means fever. The feeling "it is all about me" is like a fever. The words here are about healing, not blame. Think of a cool cloth on a hot forehead. Slowly, the fever goes down.
When have you felt the it-is-all-about-me fever? What helped it cool down?
