naanak baarik kachhoo na jaanai raakhan ka-o parabh maa-ee baap. ||2||1||14||
Nanak, the child, does not know anything at all. O God, please protect me; You are my Mother and Father. ||2||1||14||

In plain words

Nanak says: I am a small child, and I do not know anything at all.

Keep me safe, dear One. You are my Mother and my Father.

You do not have to know everything — a child simply trusts, and is held.
The deeper layer

You do not have to know everything to be kept safe; the One is mother and father to you.

Naanak baarik kachhoo na jaanai means Nanak, the child, knows nothing at all. Guru Arjan, signing as Nanak, speaks like a small child. This is not putting himself down. It is the open trust of a little child, who does not need to know everything to feel safe.

Raakhan ka-o parabh maa-ee baap means O One, You are my mother and father, here to protect me. The One is both parents at once, tender and complete. Think of a toddler falling asleep in the car. They do not know the road home, but they rest, because they trust who is driving.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you do not understand yet that you can be at peace not knowing for now?
