Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa
Until the mind is stilled, Maya, the pull of the world, is not stilled either.
The One who made all this is the One who understands it.
Thinking deeply on the Word, you are carried across the wild, frightening ocean of the world.
The pull of the world loosens only when the grasping mind grows still, and the Word carries you across.
This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Naa man marai na maa-i-aa marai does not mean killing anything; it means the grasping, restless self growing still. Only then does the pull of the world lose its grip. Bha-o saagar, the world-ocean, is a wide, rough sea; sabad veechaar, thinking deeply on the Word, is the boat that carries you across.
What is one small way you could quiet your own mind before trying to fix everything around you?
