Verse 3 of 5

When Pride Melts, the Light Shines

ਪ੍ਰਗਟੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਚੂਕਾ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
pargatee jot chookaa abhimaan.
The Divine Light shines radiantly, and egotistical pride is dispelled.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਦੀਆ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ॥੨॥
satgur dee-aa amrit naam. ||2||
The True Guru bestows the Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Light shines out, and proud ego is gone.

The True Guru gives the Naam, sweet as nectar.

When pride quiets, the light you were blocking shines right through.
The deeper layer

When pride melts, the Light inside shines out.

Pargatee jot chookaa abhimaan: the Light becomes manifest, and abhimaan, prideful ego, is dispelled. The light only has to be unblocked; when pride quiets, what was always there shines through. Then satgur dee-aa amrit naam, the true Guru bestows the nectar of the Naam. Grace is like this: always present, received the moment we stop blocking it. Haumai, the sense of a separate, self-important self, is what dims the light; its melting lets the light out.
