Verse 6 of 9

I stop keeping score

I do not try to calculate the account; I accept the Hukam of God's Command. I speak with intuitive love and respect.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਤੁਧੈ ਸਲਾਹੀ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੫॥
jo kichh vartai tuDhai salaaheeN sabh tayree vadi-aa-ee. ||5||
No matter what happens, I will praise the Lord. It is all Your Glorious Greatness, O Lord. ||5||

In plain words

I do not add up the accounts. I recognize the flow of Your will, and I speak with easy, natural love.

Whatever happens, I praise You. It is all Your greatness.

Stop keeping score, learn the flow, and there's always something to be grateful for.
The deeper layer

Let go of keeping score, and trust the way things flow.

After the old warning stories, this is the calm answer. Ganat na ganeeN: I do not add up the accounts. Hukam pachhaanaa: I recognize the Hukam, the One's way of moving through everything.

Then speaking becomes easy. Bolee bhaa-ay subhaa-ee: I speak with love, in a natural way. Gurbani calls this natural ease sahaj.

Think of a friend who never keeps track of who paid last time. They are just glad to be with you. Jo kichh vartai tuDhai salaaheeN: whatever happens, I praise You. It is all Your greatness. That is trust, and it is thankfulness.

A Question to Sit With

What might change if you stopped tallying who owes you and just watched how things flow?
