Verse 6 of 9

The wobbling mind steadies

ਝਗੜੁ ਚੁਕਾਵੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥
jhagarh chukhaavai har gun gaavai.
Inner conflict comes to an end, singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਪੂਰਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
pooraa satgur sahj samaavai.
Through the Perfect True Guru, one is intuitively absorbed into the Lord.
ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਡੋਲਤ ਤਉ ਠਹਰਾਵੈ ॥
ih man dolat ta-o thehraavai.
This wobbling, unsteady mind is stabilized,
ਸਚੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੫॥
sach karnee kar kaar kamaavai. ||5||
and one lives the lifestyle of true actions. ||5||

In plain words

Singing the praises of the One, my inner quarrels come to an end.

Through the perfect True Guru, I sink into the One with natural ease. This wobbling, unsteady mind holds still, and I live by true actions.

Sing what is true, and the wobbling mind finally holds still.
The deeper layer

Singing the One's praises quiets the quarrels inside you and steadies a wobbling mind.

Jhagarh chukhaavai har gun gaavai: inner conflict ends in singing the One's praises. Pooraa satgur sahj samaavai: through the perfect True Guru, one sinks into sahaj, natural ease. Ih man dolat ta-o thehraavai: the wobbling mind is steadied. Sach karnee kar kaar kamaavai: from that steadiness come true actions, a truthful life.

A Question to Sit With
