ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥੩॥
gurmat chhootas parabh sarnaa-ee. ||3||
Following the Guru's Teachings, one is saved in the Sanctuary of God. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

True is the tongue that delights in the sweet taste of the One.

Following the Guru's teaching, a person is set free, safe in the One's shelter.

Words ring truest when they carry a sweetness you have tasted yourself.
The deeper layer

Honest words come from a heart that has tasted something sweet.

The verse says sach jihvaa har rasan rasaa-ee: true is the tongue that has tasted the One's sweetness. Then gurmat chhootas parabh sarnaa-ee. Gurmat means the Guru's teaching. Following it, one is set free and rests safe in the One's shelter.

Think of how you talk about a food you love. You do not have to try hard. The joy just comes out. Honest speech here grows from that inner sweetness, not from effort or showing off.

A Question to Sit With
