O Nanak, never forget the Naam, the Name of the Lord. Whatever He does, comes to pass. ||8||2||7||2||9||

In plain words

O my mind, hurry to the shelter of the One, who can do everything.

Nanak says: never forget the Naam. Whatever the One does, that is what comes to pass.

Take shelter in the One, and rest in the flow of life.
The deeper layer

Run to the One for shelter, and rest in how life unfolds.

Har sarnaa-ee bhaj man mayray means "hurry, my mind, to the One's shelter." Sarnaa-ee means shelter, a safe place. Sabh kichh karnai jog means "the One can do everything."

Naanak naam na veesrai means "Nanak says, never forget the Naam." Guru Amar Das signs as Nanak. Jo kichh karai so hog means "whatever the One does, that is what happens." This is trust in hukam, the order and flow of life.

Think of a kid in the back seat on a long drive. They don't need to steer. They can look out the window and rest. The whole shabad has been about staying awake. It ends in rest and quiet trust.

A Question to Sit With
