Sikhism·Raag Prabhaatee·Raag Parbhaatee, Shabad 59
Verse 4 of 5

Flowing With What Is

ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੋਆ ਸੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭਾਣਾ ॥
jo kichh ho-aa so tayraa bhaanaa.
Whatever happens is by the Pleasure of Your Will.
ਜੋ ਇਵ ਬੂਝੈ ਸੁ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥੩॥
jo iv boojhai so sahj samaanaa. ||3||
Whoever understands this, is intuitively merged in the Lord. ||3||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Whatever happens comes about by Your Will, as it pleases You.

Whoever understands this melts, easily and naturally, into the One.

Peace comes not from controlling life but from flowing with it.
The deeper layer

Life flows within the One's Will, and peace comes from moving with it.

Jo kichh ho-aa so tayraa bhaanaa means whatever happens is within Your Will. Bhaanaa is the One's Will. Sikhs also call it Hukam. It is not a list of rules shouted from above. It is the flow of life, like water finding its way downhill.

Jo iv boojhai so sahj samaanaa means whoever understands this melts into sahj, easy, natural peace.

This is not giving up or lying down. It is lining up with the way things move. Think of swimming in a river. You can wear yourself out swimming against it. Or you can let the current carry you where it was going anyway.

A Question to Sit With

What is something you cannot change that would feel lighter if you stopped fighting it?
