sar santokh taas gur ho-ay. ||1|| rahaa-o.
The Guru encompasses the ocean of contentment. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

There is no holy place equal to the Guru.

The Guru holds the whole ocean of contentment.

The holiest place is the teaching itself, an ocean of contentment.
The deeper layer

The Guru is the holiest place there is, an ocean of contentment.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Gur samaan tirath nahee ko-ay means "no holy place of pilgrimage is equal to the Guru." A tirath is a sacred spot people travel to.

Sar santokh taas gur ho-ay means "the Guru holds the pool of contentment." Santokh is contentment, the calm feeling of having enough. So the holy place moves inside. It is the teaching itself.

Think of a water fountain at school that never runs dry. You don't have to go anywhere special to drink. The Guru's teaching is like that. Wherever you are, you can draw from it, and it never runs out.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you feel most content, and can you carry that feeling with you?
