My Lord is the Embodiment of Bliss. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

When the Word of the Shabad rings out, the Lord of the Universe comes into view.

My dear One is joy itself, in living form.

Sing, and you notice a joy that was here all along.
The deeper layer

The One you sing to is joy itself.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. Gobid gaajai sabad baajai means "the Lord of the Universe rings out when the Word is sounded." Gaajai means to ring out loud, like thunder. Baajai is the sound of an instrument being played. When the Word rings out, the One comes into view.

Aanad roopee mayro raam-ee-aa means "my dear One is the form of bliss." Aanad is deep joy. Singing helps you notice a joy that was here already. Think of switching on a light in a room: everything was already there, and now you can see it.

A Question to Sit With
