You, O Lord, are the Philosopher's Stone, and I am iron; associating with You, I am transformed into gold.

You are Merciful; You are the gem and the jewel. Naam Dayv is absorbed in the Truth. ||3||2||

In plain words

You are the magic stone that turns iron into gold, and I am the iron. Being near You, I have turned to gold.

You are kind. You are the gem and the ruby. Namdev says: I have melted into the Truth, like a drop settling into the sea.

Stay close to the One, and even plain iron turns to gold.
The deeper layer

Stay near the One, and even plain iron turns to gold.

Tumh chay paaras ham chay lohaa means "You are the paaras, and I am the iron." A paaras is a magic stone from old stories: any iron that touches it turns to gold, kanchan. Sangay means "by being with."

Too da-i-aal ratan laal means "You are kind; You are the gem and the ruby." Then comes naamaa saach samaa-ilaa: Namdev is absorbed in the Truth, like a drop of rain settling into the sea. The change and the merging are one movement toward the One.

A Question to Sit With

What is something in you that has changed just from being near good people?
