Sikhism·Raag Prabhaatee·Raag Parbhaatee, Shabad 66
Verse 2 of 5

You See Everything I Do

ਜੀਅ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
jee-a kee jot na jaanai ko-ee.
No one knows the Light of the soul.
ਤੈ ਮੈ ਕੀਆ ਸੁ ਮਾਲੂਮੁ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tai mai kee-aa so maaloom ho-ee. ||1|| rahaa-o.
Whatever I do, is known to You, Lord. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

No one knows the light that shines inside a living being.

Whatever I do, You know it, my Lord.

No one can see the light inside you — but the One who lives there sees it completely.
The deeper layer

No one can see the light inside you, and the One knows everything you do.

This is the rahaa-o, the "pause" line, the center of the shabad. It holds a mystery and a comfort. Jee-a kee jot na jaanai ko-ee means "no one knows the light of the soul." The jot is the light that glows inside a living being.

Tai mai kee-aa so maaloom ho-ee means "whatever I do, You know it." That knowing is closeness. Think of a parent who knows you so well they can tell how your day went just from your face. Nothing about you is hidden from the One who lives inside you.

A Question to Sit With

How does it feel to be known completely by the One who lives inside you?
