Then, you shall never again have to come into this world. ||1||Pause||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Speak the True Name of the Creator.

Then you will not have to keep coming round into this world again and again.

Let the True Name live on your breath, and the scattered circling settles.
The deeper layer

Speak the True Name of the Creator, and the restless going round and round comes to rest.

This is the Rahao, the "pause" line at the center of the shabad. Bolhu sach naam kartaar: speak the True Name of the Creator. Fun bahurh na aavan vaar: then you will not have to come around again.

That line speaks of not being born again and again. Its heart is something we can feel now. A scattered life goes round and round, like a hamster on a wheel. Let the True Name live on your breath, and that circling slows and settles. Saying the Name is a coming home.

A Question to Sit With

Is there a word or phrase that calms you down when you repeat it?
