Verse 3 of 5

Lifting the Lowly into Kings

ਊਚਾ ਤੇ ਫੁਨਿ ਨੀਚੁ ਕਰਤੁ ਹੈ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੈ ਸੁਲਤਾਨੁ ॥
oochaa tay fun neech karat hai neech karai sultaan.
The Creator transforms the high into the low, and makes the lowly into kings.
ਜਿਨੀ ਜਾਣੁ ਸੁਜਾਣਿਆ ਜਗਿ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥੨॥
jinee jaan sujaani-aa jag tay pooray parvaan. ||2||
Those who know the All-knowing Lord are approved and certified as perfect in this world. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The Creator brings the high down low, and makes the lowly into kings.

Those who come to know the all-knowing One are welcomed as complete in this world.

The One lifts the overlooked into honor; knowing the One is the measure that counts.
The deeper layer

The One can turn the world's ranking upside down.

Oochaa tay fun neech karat hai: the Creator brings the high down low. Neech karai sultaan: and makes the lowly into kings. This verse levels everyone. Worldly rank does not decide who matters.

Jinee jaan sujaani-aa: those who come to know the all-knowing One. Jag tay pooray parvaan: they are counted as complete in this world. Think of a school play where the quietest kid turns out to be the star. Status was never the true measure. Knowing the One is.

A Question to Sit With

Have you seen someone the world ignored turn out to matter a great deal?
