Sikhism·Raag Raamkalee·Shabad 33
Verse 3 of 5

Bonds Cut, Filled With Peace

mahimaa jaa kee gahir gambheer.
His Glory is profound and unfathomable.
ho-ay nihaal day-ay jis Dheer.
One whom He blesses with patience becomes blissful.
jaa kay banDhan kaatay raa-ay.
One whose bonds are shattered by the Sovereign Lord
so nar bahur na jonee paa-ay. ||2||
is not cast into the womb of reincarnation again. ||2||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

The greatness of the One is deep beyond measure.

Whoever the One blesses with patience is filled with joy.

The one whose chains the King has cut

is not sent into another birth again.

Patience is a gift that grows into joy.
The deeper layer

Mahimaa gahir gambheer — the One's glory is profound and unfathomable. Ho-ay nihaal day-ay jis Dheer — blessed with patience, one grows joyful; bandhan kaatay raa-ay — when the King cuts the bonds, bahur na jonee paa-ay, the person is not sent around again through birth after birth.

A Question to Sit With

When has being patient turned into something good?
