My Best Friend

saajan meet sakhaa har mayrai gun gopaal har raa-i-aa.
The Lord is my Best Friend, my Buddy, my Companion. I sing the Glorious Praises of my Sovereign Lord King.
bisar na jaa-ee nimakh hirdai tay poorai guroo milaa-i-aa. ||1||
I shall not forget Him in my heart, even for an instant; I have met with the Perfect Guru. ||1||

In plain words

The One is my best friend, my buddy, my closest companion — I sing of the One with all my heart.

I will not let the One slip from my heart even for a blink, now that the perfect Guru has brought us together.

The One can be as close as your very best friend.
The deeper layer

The One, called by the warmest human names: saajan, meet, sakhaa — best friend, buddy, companion. Here is the closeness at Saarang's heart: pure friendship. bisar na jaa-ee nimakh: not forgetting even for a nimakh, a blink, because the poorai guroo, the perfect Guru, has milaa-i-aa, brought the two together. Belonging is the note.

A Question to Sit With

Who is a friend who feels so close it is like they are always with you?
