Looking for a Place to Rest

kot janam bharmatou baho bhaaNtee thit nahee kathoo paa-ee.
Wandering through millions of incarnations in countless ways, he does not find stability anywhere.
pooraa satgur sahj na bhayti-aa saakat aavai jaa-ee. ||1||
The faithless cynic does not intuitively meet with the Perfect True Guru; he continues coming and going in reincarnation. ||1||

Translation by Dr. Sant Singh Khalsa

In plain words

Wandering through countless lives in many ways, a person finds no place to rest.

A heart turned from its source does not meet the perfect Guru with ease, and so it keeps coming and going.

A heart cut off from its source keeps wandering until it meets what can settle it.
The deeper layer

Kot janam bharmat, wandering through countless lifetimes: the restless circling of a heart that cannot settle. Saakat is the one cut off from the source, a heart turned away. Thit is stability; meeting the perfect Satgur sahj, with natural ease, ends the circling.

A Question to Sit With

Where do you go, or who do you turn to, when your mind won't settle?
