Sikhism·Raag Saarang·Shabad 12
Verse 2 of 3

The Home That Fills With Song

jit garihi gun gaavtay har kay gun gaavtay raam gun gaavtay tit garihi vaajay panch sabad vad bhaag mathoraa.
That household, in which the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung, in which the Glorious Praises of the Lord are sung, in which His Glorious Praises are sung, where the Panch Shabad, the Five Primal Sounds, resound - great is the destiny written on the forehead of one who lives in such a household.
All the sins of that humble being are taken away, all the pains are taken away, all diseases are taken away; sexual desire, anger, greed, attachment and egotistical pride are taken away. The Lord drives the five thieves out of such a person of the Lord. ||1||

In plain words

In a home where the One's praises are sung, a kind of deep music rings out, and great good fortune settles over everyone who lives there.

In that home, old hurts and sicknesses ease, and the five restless pulls — wanting, anger, greed, clinging, and pride — quietly lose their grip. The One walks them right out the door.

A home filled with song is a home where the heavy things lose their grip.
The deeper layer

When a home is full of songs of praise, it becomes a home full of peace. The restless pulls inside a person lose their hold there.

Garihi means household. In a home where praises are sung, the verse says, panch sabad ring out — five sacred sounds, a picture of heavenly music. Imagine a kitchen where someone is always humming a happy song. The whole house feels lighter, and everyone who lives there is lucky.

Then comes a list of five pulls: kaam (wanting), kroDh (anger), lobh (greed), moh (clinging) and abhimaan (pride). The verse calls them thieves, because they quietly steal our peace. Har maar kadhay means the One drives them out. They lose their grip, and the One walks them right out the door.
